Patria Jacobs is Collected Sounds' artist of the month for June 2005.
Her part twang part AAA voice is unique and worth checking out. It's hard to classify this CD in a genre, since there is old time country, folk, and something else I can' put my finger on.
The vocals in general are often mixed on the tinny side, which makes this recording sound quite retro. I feel like this is something that would have been heard in the late 60s. Almost like film music.
"Hurricane" has an organ part ala The Doors, which gives it a 70s Jefferson Airplane-type sound.
"Stayed Away Too Long" could be a long lost like Patsy cline tune. This one is great.
"Nautical Song" and "Tunnel of Delight" both use this really cool, echoic, distorted technique on the vocals. Gives the tracks a bit of a spooky sound. Very cool.
All in all this is a very interesting and unique (in a good way) recording that will certainly click with many listeners.
